String Algae and Blanket Algae are different
than green water algae. They do not pass through a UV so UVs do not work
on it. There are products, however, that are safe to use and work fine to
kill it and help prevent it.

AlgaeFix It's our little miracle for killing string
algae. It works without harming the fish or plants (when use as directed).
It does not, however, keep string algae from growing back. We use barley
as the preventative.

Barley Bales & Barley Extract AlgaeFix will kill whatever string algae is
present in the pond when you treat it but it will not keep it from growing back.
Barley has an enzyme in it that retards the growth of string and blanket algae.
Small bales of barley can be placed where water will run through it (in the
filter or waterfall or stream) and as it starts breaking down it releases the
enzymes. Barley extract works immediately.
