The Glorious Garden Gazing Globe

Q:  Why do some glass globes have seals and others don't?
A:  High quality hand-blown glass globes are sealed on the bottom of the stem to protect the coloring inside.  Cheaper, thinner glass globes are not sealed (or sealed poorly) and condensation gets inside the ball.  You can tell when this happens to a globe because it discolors, some actually peel from the inside and/or it may mold inside. 

Q:  Are stainless steel globes sturdier than their glass counterparts?
A:  Most the time the answer is YES.  A high-quality glass globe (like what is sold here) is pretty darn sturdy and can withstand quite a bit of banging around but will bust if thrown hard enough and/or on concrete or another hard surface.  Stainless steel balls dent and scratch but do not break.

Q:  Do I need to take in my globes in winter?
A:  No, not exactly.  You need to take in your globe to prevent it from getting destroyed or marred during violent wind or storms.  That could be at any time of year.  The cold weather and snow generally will not hurt your quality globe.
